Sofia Haslington, (nee Pemberton), at your service. I was a happy, go-getting, fun-loving, beautiful young woman once. I made the mistake of marrying Derek Haslington, the eminent heart surgeon, but he made my life a misery. I fought back, changed my life and enjoyed my last months on earth. My children were my priority. I gave myself a mantra and a 'do-or-die' list. I found an inner strength I did not know I had. "She" created me to help others through difficult situations. You can read all about me in Look After Each Other,  Sofia's Legacy and Love You Forever- aka The Sofia Trilogy.  I know I have all ready helped many peeps through hard times to turn their lives around. Just ask me anything.

Or you may buy me. "She" does good deals and signs copies of me. Apparently, I make nice presents to!

You can read more about me and my family on "her" blog, http://lookaftereachother.blogspot.com or if you want to find "her" on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/marilynlrice

Nov 16, 8:40AM EST0

Have you written or have the plan to write something about a complex family?

Nov 15, 9:06AM EST0

Yes, Time & Tide is a complex family saga with 50 years of history included in a diary format.  Wait a minute, Sofia here, my family is really complex partic if you're married to Derek. Try reading all about us. I fell in love with my brother-in-law and my best friend who became my sister-in-law really loved my husband until she had the misfortune, through my untimely death, to have to live with him! Then, she too looked for an escape route. Sadly, for her it was disastrous. She lost everything. Donald and I watched it all from upstairs but we were unable to change things.

Getting published. Went on the self publishing route. Wait a minute, Sofia here... my setback was finding the confidence to take that first step. My self confidence and energy were low. My fighting spirit had died. My solution.... simple... I bought a lipstick. A simple lipstick gave me confidence.

Wow impressive , when did you start writing?

Nov 14, 11:35AM EST0

I've always written. As a child it was more like scribbling notes. I started seriously writing in the 1980's when I took a writing course. Wrote my first novel in 1987. Unsuccessful. Wrote my first novel to be published from 1996-2000 and published it in 2000, launched it on my 50th birthday. Then, I rewrote my first novel and published it as my second one. After that wriitng and publishing books became both a habit and a hobby.

Nov 14, 12:18PM EST0

What was the first book you ever read as a kid?

Nov 14, 7:52AM EST0

The first I remember is the Beatrix Potter books. My favourite was Jemima Puddle Duck.  As for Sofia, she doesn't remember!

Nov 14, 8:39AM EST0

What is the age group the story is aimed for?

Nov 14, 7:43AM EST0

Adults

Nov 14, 7:49AM EST0

Have you written poems?

Nov 14, 6:23AM EST0

No, I have never written poems but I did do my mantra list and do-or-die list. Love you. Sofia xxxx

Nov 14, 7:22AM EST1

Is your Sofia’s story based on real events?

Nov 13, 5:55PM EST0

Sofia here, 'I'll answer that. She created me and gave me my awful husband after her encounter with a man named Derek who did nothing but complain. The term Derekisms was used by the hospital staff every time someone moaned after Derek who found fault with everything; he was so negative. She linked it with two other ideas based on her own experiences and they are her experiences with mediums and her strong relationship with her own father, Charles. Unlike me, she is still alive so has yet to experience the ride toward the light and the passing over to the otherside. My brother-in-law and I live in that 'parallel' universe. Enough. If you want to know more you can read all about it...'

Nov 13, 6:01PM EST0

Who is your favorite author and why?

Nov 13, 2:48PM EST0

THE GRAPES OF WRATH by J STEINBECK because I was so moved by Steinbeck's involvement with the migrants. He travelled with them and wrote himself into the story. He portrayed it all so well and so factually as well as usuing spectacular dialogue and imagery. It's a true classic.

Is it hard being an author nowadays? Seems on one hand it is easier as you have a lot more access to publicity and can market yourself to a wider audience but on another hand the competition is much greater as well, what do you think?

Nov 13, 9:58AM EST0

It depends why you want to write. if it's for money... forget it! It is easier because of ebooks, self publishing, social media etc but, as you say, the competition is greater.

Nov 13, 11:56AM EST0

Isn’t it a struggle writing and sharing what you wrote? As in even stories that are not directly related to you give away your inner world to complete strangers reading the books…isn’t it hard?

Nov 13, 9:05AM EST0

Sofia here again. Not at all, I love sharing my life and death with everyone and if I can help them, even better.

Nov 13, 11:45AM EST0

Do you have an ebook version as well?

Nov 13, 8:28AM EST0

Look After each other  and  Sofia's Legacy  are both in ebook format. Look on Amazon or my website http://sbprabooks.com/MarilynLRice

Nov 13, 8:59AM EST0

How do you control it?

Nov 13, 7:46AM EST0

Control what? My imagination? The story? I don't! A control freak? Read the book!

Nov 13, 7:57AM EST0

As an author isn’t it a struggle to have sad endings? Since you can always write a good one no?

Nov 13, 7:24AM EST0

I don't have sad endings. There's always a bright note and optimism, happiness, something positive! Also, I like to leave a reader wanting more... they need to read the next book!

Nov 13, 7:59AM EST0

Have you tried marketing the book in groups supporting women in tough situations?

Nov 13, 5:37AM EST0

Yes.

Nov 13, 7:13AM EST0

When was the book published?

Nov 13, 5:27AM EST0

Look After Each Other was published in 2007. Sofia's Legacy in 2011 and Love You Forever in 2014

Nov 13, 5:53AM EST0

Does Sofia die at the end of the book?

Nov 13, 5:24AM EST0

Sofia here, Yes, sadly I die at the end of book 1 but what happens in the rest of my trilogy is even better!

Nov 13, 5:52AM EST0

When did you start writing?

Nov 13, 4:18AM EST0

Nov 12, 7:53PM EST0

My extended family do.

Nov 13, 5:48AM EST0

Do you have your books translated in other languages?

Nov 12, 5:25PM EST0

Not yet but it's a possibility for later.

Nov 12, 5:40PM EST0

What are Sofia's hobbies?

Nov 12, 2:04PM EST0

I'm glad you asked that. Sofia here, I can answer that for myself. It is SEX and I love the game my brother-in-law, Donald has introduced me to - Alphabet Sex! That's really exciting. Yes, in my youth I loved life, I loved dancing through the night, literature, movies, bowling and new experiences. Then, I married and my life stopped. Well, I had the twins, you see, and they were a kind of new hobby and very demanding. My sex life was well... far from exciting. I think my hubby, Derek, thought it was like keyhole surgery, quickly in and out!! Then, his brother introduced me to proper sex. Wow! yes, I confess I was naughty and had an affair with my husband's brother. If you want to know more I am on Kindle...

Nov 12, 5:46PM EST0

Who is the inspiration behind your character?

Nov 12, 1:06PM EST0

If I'm honest I guess at the start it was my own relationship with a control freak husband. The sad thing is that control freaks take over gradually. I am a strong woman and married a man I thought adored and loved me. One day it was like a revelation when I realised I was being controlled. However, Sofia has a mind of her own and deals with things in her own way. It is a way designed to help others who are victims to escape from their torture.

Nov 12, 1:19PM EST0

How do you decide when a story is over, when the book is finished?

Nov 12, 12:41PM EST0

I start with the ending and then I know where I'm heading. With the Sofia trilogy, Sofia decides what will happen! I frequently let my characters take over... it's their story!

Nov 12, 12:52PM EST0

What is your favorite book?
